riverdale Save Duxford Old River

Next to Chimney Meadows Nature Reserve lies Duxford Old River. Its 113 acres contain an ancient meander of the Thames before a new "cut" was dug to allow boats to pass. In this secret and tranquil place, otters and water voles thrive, while in the floodplains next to it, 45 species of bird flourish in the well-developed hedgerows.

This land is for sale. It has no protection whatsoever. There is nothing to prevent its new owners from ripping up the hedgerow and polluting the river.

If we can buy it, we would let mother nature lead the way. We would keep it safe for wildlife. We would create the only nature reserve in the country where BOTH banks of the Thames are protected, essential for the wildlife that thrives there.
